BIO

I am James Allen, currently based in Hartford CT getting my bachelors in painting at the Hartford Art School. I am a painter, and while what I make is not entirely abstract I would still call myself an abstract painter. For me art has always been more of a compulsion than anything, I don't so much get an idea then go make it, I more so am just always in a state of producing something. I'm not consciously making my paintings, it feels more like a meditative experience. And it's been this way my whole life. I'm not sure why I do it but I like to say part of my soul has always been transcribed, a part of me I don't know that's always trying to be seen. Because of this I would say the biggest theme/idea across my work would be self discovery and transformation. Each piece almost serves as a self portrait of me in the time I made it, how I was feeling, what I was thinking, who I was.
